Is The Witcher cancelled after season 3? (Did Netflix cancel The Witcher?)

The Witcher season 3 dropped on Netflix last week. It was an epic affairs featuring an enormous battle on the Isle of Thanedd as well as a desperate streak through the Korath Desert. Season 3 is also indispensable for being the final season that will feature Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. We’ve now seen Cavill’s entire run as Geralt; when The Witcher returns, it will be with Liam Hemsworth beneath the white wig.

Or will it? uncommon reports have begun surfacing that Netflix may be quietly considering canceling The Witcher. If you’ve seen such reports and are worried, fret not; we’re here to debunk them.

The news that Netflix distinguished have canceled The Witcher seems to have originated from Marca, which ran a story with the headline that season 4 was “indefinitely delayed” and that season 3 could be the show’s last.

However, it doesn’t take much digging to find out that this story doesn’t hold liquid. It cites popular Witcher fansite Redanian Intelligence as its source, since RI reported a few weeks back that filming on season 4 had been delayed minus any confirmed start date. However, RI still says that progenies is expected to begin in 2024; it makes no reference at all of The Witcher being potentially canceled.

This fits with a trend we’ve seen of late with Witcher-related news, where some sites write deceptively negative headlines to try and stoke up an angry response from the fandom. And look, we get it. Henry Cavill was faulty in the role of Geralt, and it’s sad to see him go, especially once the show’s missteps in prior seasons. But there is mild a lot of mystery surrounding his exit; neither the pleasant nor the production has officially spoken on his reason for leaving, and until they do, any news sources claiming to know necessity be viewed with skepticism.

To bring this all back to season 4, Netflix long ago confirmed that Liam Hemsworth will be stepping in as Geralt. Cast and crew have already seen him in costume, and were it not for the ongoing writers and actors strikes, we have every reason to believe The Witcher season 4 would have begun filming as intended next month. Netflix has even already wrapped production on a spinoff near the Rats, so they’re clearly not pulling the plug on this cinematic universe.

We’ll have an eye out for any news near the future of The Witcher. Until then, remember that misinformation is just as prevalent on the internet as it is on the Continent.

The pleasant three seasons of The Witcher are streaming now on Netflix. Season 4 is imagined to begin filming in early 2024.
